Week 7 at Shorter University

This week at Shorter we learned how to create PowerPoint presentations.  PowerPoint is a very useful way to present information in an interesting manner to your audience.

We had to create a personal portfolio presentation that told personal information, special interests, academic achievements and career goals.

Week 6 at Shorter University

This week at shorter we learn about using keywords to search for information and then in turn how to properly use APA Citations in order to give proper credit for sources.

First of all we learned about using keyword to find information when searching in a library database.  Foe one of my projects for class this week I choose to search for information on Online Education.  In order to find the necessary information on Online Education I used the keywords "online Education", "Web based learning", and distance learning.  The following is the sources I would use if doing a reference paper listed in APA format.

Abstract

This paper is a detailed account of when various Looney Tunes characters visit Microsoft 2007.

Looney Tunes Visits Microsoft Office 2007
On the Insert tab, the galleries include items that are designed to coordinate with the overall look of your document. You can use these galleries to insert tables, headers, footers, lists, cover pages, and other document building blocks (Fudd, 2009). When you create pictures, charts, or diagrams, they also coordinate with your current document look. You can easily change the formatting of selected text in the document text by choosing a look for the selected text from the Quick Styles gallery on the Home tab. Bunny stated “you can also format text directly by using the other controls on the Home tab.” (2009, P.14-15)
Most controls offer a choice of using the look from the current theme or using a format that you specify directly. To change the overall look of your document, choose new Theme elements on the Page Layout tab. To change the looks available in the Quick Style gallery, use the Change Current Quick Style Set command (Bunny & Fudd, 2009). Both the Themes gallery and the Quick Styles gallery provide reset commands so that you can always restore the look of your document to the original contained in your current template. On the Insert tab, the galleries include items that are designed to coordinate with the overall look of your document.
However, Coyote, W.E., (2009) found that you can use these galleries to insert tables, headers, footers, lists, cover pages, and other document building blocks. When you create pictures, charts, or diagrams, they also coordinate with your current document look. You can easily change the formatting of selected text in the document text by choosing a look for the selected text from the Quick Styles gallery on the Home tab. You can also format text directly by using the other controls on the Home tab. Most controls offer a choice of using the look from the current theme or using a format that you specify directly.

Week 5 at Shorter University

This week in Introduction to Online Learning we read about Exam preparation strategies.  We learned about how to prepare and then review the information effectively.

CIS 1200-02-1106 Introduction To Online Learning Jeffrey E. Abernathy Assignment L5a

3 Preparation and Review Strategies for Exam Preparation

Preparation Strategies
1.       Reviewing the material prior to class.  This will give you an idea of material covered prior to class.  Review headings, scan paragraphs then review any definitions and key points in the chapter summary.
2.       Take notes or prepare an outline to help you recall key points or definitions covered.
3.       Make self tests or create flash cards to help you recall and retain information.

Review Strategies
1.       Rework any problem you did not get correct to understand the concepts involved.
2.       If prior tests have an error and the correct answer is provided, rework the problem to obtain the correct answer.  If you still cannot work it correctly ask the professor to explain the solution.
3.       Recite answers out loud and repeat if necessary to help you retain information.

The above preparation and review strategies can be applied to help you retain information and help you be successful with exams as well as in other assignments for class.

We also read about how to prepare yourself for an essay exam.  We read about how to anticipate what materials may be covered and in turn practice our essay answers ahead of time.

The final topic we covered this week was how to use a 5 day study plan to help us prepare for exams and become a more successful student.  Below are the strategies from the 5 day study plan that I selected to utilize.  There are many aspects but the 5 I choose are the ones that work best for me.

Effective Strategy for Exam Study Using 5-Day Study Plan

1.       Increase your study plan
2.       Space your study times
3.       Divide the material
4.       Modify the plan
5.       Plan active study tasks
When studying for an exam one key issue as the text of Introduction to Online Learning brings out this week is to increase your study plan.  With an upcoming you should increase your study time if possible focusing on issues you have problems with.
Spacing your study time is important to make sure you do not become exhausted and overstressed and forget the material covered.  Taking a break when feeling overwhelmed can allow you to return to the materials with a new perspective.
Divide the material into small blocks of recallable sections can be beneficial when preparing for an exam. Last minute preparation or “cramming” can overload your mind and prevent you from being able to recall the information.
Modify the plan-If you find one aspect that works better for you than others modify your plan to focus more on that aspect to let you take the fullest advantage of your study time.
Plan active study tasks-Plan your time wisely to prepare for the covered materials.  Again plan your time around giving my time to the aspects that can benefit you best in recalling information on the exam.
